  1. Lode says:

The main message to me was that both of you tried all kinds of techniques, and finally came to the conclusion that those didn’t have the effect you really wanted. The desire is for complete union -oneness- with God, Who is our true Being, and It is He Who desires that as we. Although “we” are not God’s Being, since God is, and God is not really a human being, although He might experience being one since He does as we.
The caller in the first part of the talk said that he decided to give up trying and to just go upstairs (!) and sit. As if saying “Let whatever happens happen, I’ll just bear with it, making no effort to end the suffering I might experience.”
That truly is denying the self, taking up the cross, and following God through His human appearance to Himself as Who He is as God.

That’s when the caller just watched all the thoughts that came up without resisting them. He did not try to get rid of them, or change them, he just let them come and go.Then there was just the awareness being aware of itself. And there was a deep marvellous peace.

That went away again, and he wanted to have it back (understandably) so he started to make an effort again to regain it, which did not make that peace return.

Mystics say that someone who loves God will be willing to even go to hell and remain in it forever if that would be God’s will -which they say is an impossibility- but in a manner of speaking. In that sense the author of Dark Night of the Soul -St. John of the Cross- writes:

“God values in you the inclination to dryness and suffering for love of him more than all the consolations, spiritual visions, and meditations you could possibly have.”
    (Saying 14):

So in case a subconscious part of me still doubts that God’s love in me is unselfish, I adjusted my prayer a bit in accordance with St. John of the Cross’ advice:

“Instead of me seeking for consolations, spiritual visions and thinking things over with nice thoughts to push the painful thoughts, memories, imaginations and feelings that might come up out of my consciousness,
incline me towards enduring boredom and suffering, for the love of God.
    Amen.”

And then it is just a matter of going “upstairs” -first sitting in a chair, but then wherever I might seem to be at that moment- and endure whatever comes up, although I will disagree with any ungodly suggestions and certainly not heed them.
Just watching and enduring for as long I can stand it for that moment. And then whenever possible do it again, repeating this cycle forever until I physically leave this dream-world -die- if that would be the case.

I am sure it is allowed to desire complete union with God in His perfect Love to let it help bring others to God also. But whether that will be or not I leave up to God. In the mean time I ask God to help me endure for His Love whatever comes up that is not Him nor Heaven, but hell instead.

Thank God in both of you for reminding God in me of this.
